Wilfrid E. LEGROS CLARK (1895-1971)
The Antecedent of Man, Chicago: Quadrangle Books, 1960
A British anatomist, surgeon and paleoanthropologist, this “introduction to the
evolution of primates” is a work that complements our already extensive knowledge
of the anatomical evolution of vertebrates. Although it reiterates the fact that we are
descended from a common ancestor, it emphasizes the particularity of human
development. Skeletal features, dentition, brain, senses, digestive and reproductive
systems are presented in a very direct way for each category studied. It will appeal to
a wide audience, from students of anatomy or zoology to the more erudite.
