American neurobiologist, professor at Yale University, member of the National Academy of
Sciences since 1975. In 1977, he was appointed a member of the International Brain Research
Organization. His scientific work focused on nerve cell shapes and synaptic connection patterns,
mainly in damaged neurons. After studying at the University of California (Los Angeles), he taught
and carried out research at various universities: Harvard, Oregon, Yale; Oxford (England),
Bordeaux (France), at the Institute of Marine Biology. He was a member of the editorial team of
the Journal Central Nervous System Trauma and a consultant editor for the Encyclopedia of
Neuroscience.
