An Introduction to the Study of Man, Oxford Clarendon Press, 1971
The Memory System of the Brain, London, Oxford U. P., 1967

British zoologist and neurologist (Oxford), Professor of Human Anatomy at University College
London (1945-1974), member of the Department of Experimental Psychology at Oxford, member
of the Accademia dei Lincei, Rome. His main field of study was the nervous system, and in the
1930s, for example, synaptic transmission. During the Second World War, he studied nerve
regeneration in mammals, focusing in particular on biomedical conditions for growth and ways of
accelerating the repair of peripheral nerves in cases of severe damage. After the war, his
research focused on the central nervous system and brain function. It’s quite possible that
Feldenkrais heard Young’s live BBC broadcasts in 1950, in which he described his work and the
means he was using to gain a deeper understanding of these functions.
