Alfred Richard ORAGE (1873-1934)
Psychological Excercises and Essays (1968)

British intellectual and editor of the weekly literary magazine The New Adge (1907-1924), he was
an important figure in English socialism and cultural modernism. At Ouspensky’s suggestion, he
went to work with G. Gurdjieff. After some time, Gurdjieff sent him to the U.S. as an “emissary” of
his system of self-development based on harmonizing intellectual, emotional and motor functions.
He returned to England in 1931 to edit the New English Weekly.
