Thompson d’ARCY WENTWORTH (1860-1948),
On Grouth and Form, Cambridge, The University Press, 1917, revised 1942
A Scottish biologist, he was the first biomathematician, demonstrating how geometric transformations could be used to move from one form to a similar form at the species level. From 1917 to 1947, he taught natural history at the University of St. Andrews (Scotland). He received several awards for this work. He was interested in the role of physics and mechanics in shaping the forms and structures of living organisms.
